Welcome to Siliguri!
Apologies for the delay! The one thing you can guarantee in India is a little chaos, and we can gladly say we’ve done very well avoiding it despite the time between our last post.
On Sunday we finally touched down in Siliguri and we’re greeted by our hosts and facilitators at Seva Kendra.
Seva Kendra was established in 1971-1972 during the Bangladesh War primarily to serve the refugees who had flooded the area from across the border. When the massive refugee crisis was over Seva Kendra continued to serve the poor and marginalised in the district of Darjeeling through relief and developmental activities.
Some of their programs that Hands On India assists with are:
Education for Stone Breaker and Tea Plantation families
Women’s Empowerment Groups
